Denver Post: Amendment 49 Puts a Stop to “Blatant Conflict of Interest”
The editors of Colorado’s largest daily newspaper have joined the growing list of supporters behind Amendment 49, the Ethical Standards initiative. From today’s lead editorial in the Denver Post:
Amendment 49 has been lumped together with two other ballot measures being targeted by unions, and lots of money is being spent to convince voters its something it’s not.
Don’t be fooled. Amendment 49 is simply a straightforward “good government” measure….
Nothing in Amendment 49 will interfere with withholding taxes, judicial liens and garnishments, health benefits, insurance, pension and retirement funds and charitable contributions.
But Amendment 49 will stop the blatant conflict of interest that now allows politicians to collect dues that are used to elect and re-elect those very same politicians. Vote “yes” on Amendment 49.
The Denver Post is the fifth major Colorado daily newspaper to endorse Amendment 49. The others are:
- Rocky Mountain News
- Colorado Springs Gazette
- Grand Junction Daily Sentinel
- Pueblo Chieftain
